Will you help me get my provisional driving licence?

Yes. We guide you through the process from the start. You need a valid provisional licence before you can take driving lessons or book your theory test. You can apply to the DVLA from 15 years and 9 months; you can start learning to drive at 17.

Do I have to pass the theory test before the practical test?

Yes. In the UK you must pass the theory test before you can book your practical driving test. The theory test includes multiple-choice questions and a hazard perception test. We cover theory topics and DVSA test preparation in our lessons.

How many driving lessons do I need?

There is no legal minimum. DVSA research shows that learners who pass have around 45 hours of professional lessons plus private practice. Everyone learns at a different pace—we’ll tailor your training so you’re ready when you are.

What happens in my first driving lesson?

We’ll start with an introduction and check your provisional licence. You’ll learn the cockpit drill and basic controls in a quiet area, then move to quiet roads when you’re ready. Your instructor will set the pace so you feel safe and confident.

What is the duration of your programmes?

The regular package runs over 6 weeks, the express (intensive) over 3 weeks, and the polishing/refresher programme over 4 weeks. We can advise which suits you best based on your experience and schedule.

Do you have an intensive or express course?

Yes. Our express course is our shortest option at 3 weeks, ideal if you want to get test-ready quickly. Contact us to check availability and to plan your schedule around Bletchley and Milton Keynes test centres.

I can already drive. Can I just get a licence?

Yes. If you already drive but need to pass the UK theory and practical tests, we can help you prepare. You still need a valid provisional licence and must pass both the DVSA theory and practical tests to get a full licence.

I need a refresher or I’m not very confident. How can you help?

Our polishing/refresher programme is designed for people who can drive but want to improve confidence, brush up on manoeuvres, or prepare for the test. We focus on the areas you need most.

What is the legal eyesight standard for driving?

You must be able to read a number plate from 20 metres (with glasses or contact lenses if you need them). If you need to wear them to meet this standard, you must wear them whenever you drive. Your instructor will do an eyesight check at the start of your first lesson.

Can I learn to drive with anxiety?

Yes. Many learners feel nervous at first. We work at your pace, often starting in quiet areas and building up gradually. If you have specific concerns, tell us when you book and we’ll do our best to support you.

Can I choose manual or automatic?

Yes. For our regular and express packages we can cover both, or focus on your preferred transmission. If you pass your test in an automatic, your licence only allows you to drive automatics unless you later take a manual test. For polishing/refresher we train on the transmission you already use.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a lesson. This helps us offer the slot to other learners. See our full terms and conditions for details.

Do you offer pick-up and drop-off?

Yes. We pick you up and drop you off for your lessons within our Bletchley and Milton Keynes area. Ask us when you book to confirm we cover your location.

Can I choose my preferred instructor?

Instructors are assigned based on availability. If you have a preference or need continuity (e.g. for anxiety or specific needs), let us know when you book and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes. We offer discounts for students and for National Service personnel. Ask us when you book for current offers and eligibility.

What should I bring to my first lesson?

Bring your valid provisional driving licence (photocard and paper counterpart if you have it). If you need glasses or contact lenses to read a number plate at 20 metres, wear them. Wear comfortable shoes and avoid heavy or restrictive clothing.

Is 20 lessons enough to pass the driving test?

20 driving lessons might be enough if you are a quick learner with prior experience or significant private practice. For most complete beginners, it is often not enough; the average learner needs closer to 40–50 hours of professional instruction plus private practice to feel ready. Confidence and mastering manoeuvres take time. There is no legal minimum—it is about quality and preparedness, not just hours.

Can I pass my driving test after 10 lessons?

Generally, no. Assuming you have no previous driving experience, 10 hours of lessons is usually not enough to learn how to drive to the minimum safe level required to pass a driving test. Most learners need significantly more instruction and practice.

How can I get 40 hours of free driving lessons?

Up to 40 hours of free driving lessons may be available through the Motability Foundation, but only if you are a disabled person already using the Motability Scheme and receive specific disability benefits (such as PIP or DLA) plus a government-assessed means-tested benefit. These lessons help you learn to drive or get used to adapted controls in your Motability vehicle. You must pass your theory test first and pay for the official tests.

Do I fail my test if I cannot parallel park?

You can fail for not being able to parallel park safely, but it is not an automatic fail unless you make a serious mistake (e.g. hitting another car or a pedestrian). Minor errors such as needing to readjust or touching the curb usually result in minor faults. If you cannot complete the manoeuvre safely or within a reasonable number of adjustments, it can become a major fault. Examiners look for safe execution and control.

Can you fail your test for doing 20 in a 30 zone?

There is no set speed at which you automatically fail. Driving too slowly is judged in context. The examiner considers the speed limit, traffic flow, and whether you are holding up other road users unnecessarily. If you drive unnecessarily slowly and it affects safety or traffic flow, you could receive faults.

Do you fail if you hit the curb?

Hitting the curb is not always an automatic fail. A light nudge or a good recovery may result in a minor fault. However, if it shows a significant loss of control, risks people, or involves forcefully mounting the pavement, it can become a serious or dangerous fault and result in a fail.

Is parallel parking harder than other manoeuvres?

Many learners find parallel parking challenging because it requires good spatial awareness, steering control, and observation. It often takes more practice than other manoeuvres, but with the right instruction and practice, most people can master it.

What is the biggest fail on a driving test?

Common serious and dangerous faults that lead to fails include poor observation at junctions, inadequate mirror use, positioning and lane discipline errors, and loss of control during manoeuvres. Examiners look for safe, consistent driving throughout.

What is the hardest part of learning to drive?

This varies by learner. Common challenges include roundabouts, junctions, manoeuvres such as parallel parking and bay parking, and building confidence in traffic. Your instructor can help you focus on the areas you find trickiest.

How can I pass driving lessons quickly?

Practice as much as you can—the more hands-on driving experience you get, the better you become. Reflect on your progress with your instructor after each lesson, identify areas you find tricky, and ask to focus on those in your next lesson. Consider an intensive course if your schedule allows.

What is the number one reason for failing a driving test?

Poor observation, especially at junctions and roundabouts, is one of the most common reasons for failing. Not checking mirrors effectively, failing to signal in good time, and making risky decisions also lead to serious faults. Your instructor will help you develop safe observation habits.

Can I drive immediately after passing the driving test?

Yes. Once you have passed your practical test, you receive a pass certificate and can drive unsupervised straight away. Make sure you have valid insurance and display L plates only if a learner is driving. Your full licence will be sent to you by the DVLA.

Is 3 of the same minors a fail?

Yes. If you get 3 or more minor faults for the same type of mistake, it will be treated as a serious fault and you will fail. For example, three minor faults for mirror use could result in a fail. It is important to correct repeated mistakes during your test.

Can you fail your driving test for driving too slowly?

Yes. Driving excessively slowly when conditions do not warrant it can lead to faults. The examiner considers whether you are holding up other road users or creating hazards. You should drive at an appropriate speed for the road and conditions.
